Nasser Al-Attiyah has lost his victory in the opening round of the World Rally Championship's S2000 class in Mexico due to a technical infringement.
The Barwa Ford driver looked to have followed up his Dakar Rally win with success on the S2000 opener, which he led throughout the rally despite strong challenges from Juho Hanninen, Ott Tanak and Martin Prokop. But six hours after the finish it was announced that he had been disqualified.
A statement from the organizers said: "Following technical scrutineering, the stewards ruled that car No. 23 driven by Nasser Al-Attiyah was excluded from the SWRC in Guanajuato Rally Mexico due to the fuel cell ventilation failing to conform to technical regulations."
Prokop therefore inherits both the S2000 win and seventh in the overall standings, with Hanninen up to second in class and eighth overall.
Tanak rejoined under superally after a Saturday accident and is now credited with third in S2000 and a point for the main championship in 10th, behind Federico Villagra's WRC Ford.
