AF Corse Ferrari Le Mans 2012

Ferrari has confirmed that it will be represented by AF Corse in this year's GT1 World Championship.

The Italian manufacturer announced earlier this month that it would enter the series for the first time, and has now unveiled the first of the teams that will run its machinery.

Amato Ferrari's squad has retained last year's European GT3 champion Francesco Castellacci to drive one of its 458 Italias and will partner him with up-and-coming Belgian Enzo Ide.

"Thanks to the great job done last season by our team with Castellacci and Leo, we have been able plan our 2012 season with a lot of confidence," said team principal Ferrari. "The victories we scored in 2011 in the european championship – despite having drivers making their debuts in GT – obliged us to accept the new world challenge.

"Being able to keep working with Castellacci and welcoming Ide, who was one of our most appreciated rivals in 2011, will be extremely challenging for us. We are eager to be back on-track for the first test of the season, set for March 6-7 at the Vallelunga track in Italy."

AF Corse has won multiple titles in GT racing over the past decade, including four GT2 teams' and three drivers' titles in the forerunner to the world championship, FIA GTs.
