Frontrunning GP2 team Addax is optimistic that it will be able to fight for the championship again this year despite signing two drivers without a win to their name for 2012.
The Spanish team has regularly fought for both the drivers' and teams' championships in recent years, and it landed the latter crown with Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde in 2011. It has opted for a less-proven lineup of Josef Kral and Johnny Cecotto Jr. for this year, but team boss Alejandro Agag expects to be fighting at the front yet again.
"The whole team is really looking forward to the new season," said Agag. "The objectives with Johnny and Josef are none other than competing for both the drivers' and teams' championship. However, we are aware that it will not be easy."
GP2 preseason testing kicks off at Jerez on Tuesday, and Agag believes that the introduction of two tire compounds on race weekends will provide the teams with the biggest challenge going into this campaign.
"The work between driver and team will be more important than ever, getting used to the varied tire compounds which will be different this season," he added. "All of this guarantees more variation within the strategies that the teams will have to develop on race weekends, which also means a fresh and interesting challenge."
