What was a work in progress throughout the 2012 season has changed again for Action Express Racing, as the Corvette Daytona Prototype team has confirmed four drivers for 2013.
The only full-season holdover is Joao Barbosa (LEFT), joined by Christian Fittipaldi – who's driven with the team at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in years past – and the Frisselle brothers, Burt and Brian. The brothers ran partial seasons this year with Doran Racing in a second-generation Dallara Ford and also with Action Express.
Midseason this year, Action Express altered its lineup to pair Barbosa with Darren Law and David Donohue with Terry Borcheller. Previously, Barbosa and Borcheller paired as did Law and Donohue, the latter duo having been together in DPs in some way, shape or form since Action Express' prior iteration as Brumos Racing. Brumos moved to Rolex's GT class in 2011.
After Borcheller and the team parted ways, Donohue co-drove with Paul Tracy, Jordan Taylor and Brian Frisselle in the second half of the season in an unofficial test run to see who could fit in a full-time role for 2013. Now Donohue leaves to pursue other opportunities.
“2012 has been one of my most challenging seasons,” said Donohue. “While it is very rewarding to have finished fourth in a field of some of the best in this business, I believe it has come time for me to leave the team that I have driven with for the last ten seasons. My father only drove for one team during his entire career so this is a difficult decision, but ultimately it is the best for me.
"I want to thank all of my teammates, both drivers and crew, for their hard work and tireless dedication. It has been an honor and a privilege to have worked with so many fine people.”
Driver pairings for the team's No. 5 and No. 9 cars were not specified, and the team is due to announce extra drivers for the Rolex 24 and other endurance races at a later date.
