A new series that would revive the concept of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport is set to start this fall, according to
AUTOSPORT.
A group of investors put together by "a leading motorsport figure," is understood to be weeks away from announcing the new venture under the "A10 World Series" banner. AUTOSPORT reports that an early February launch date has been penciled in for the one-make single-seater series, which would then kick off in October.
The A10 World Series would, like A1GP, pitch national teams against each other. It will also run through the winter with a calendar comprising a majority of non-European races, with a focus on emerging motorsport markets.
AUTOSPORT reports a source close to the new group said: "This is similar in many ways to A1GP, but it is not a re-engagement of the old series. The ethos is completely different in terms of the business model."
A1GP collapsed due to financial problems on the eve of its planned 2009/2010 season. The series' Ferrari-powered spec cars were auctioned off in March last year.
