TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 6, 2008) – The 45th SCCA National Championship Runoffs has officially begun at Heartland Park Topeka. More than 500 drivers have their paddock set up and 18 classes will enter their first qualifying times today on the 2.5-mile road course located in America’s heartland.
Come Sunday, 25 of the best SCCA Club Racers in the country will earn right to call themselves “National Champion,” but before any driver can begin to think about the weight of a Championship medal wrapped around his or her neck, a solid grid position must be secured. Qualifying commences today for the first 18 classes in the 2008 Runoffs race order. Qualifying will continue through Thursday, before racing commences on Friday. Live timing is available throughout the weekend at www.scca.com/runoffs. Lap notes and live audio of the track public address system will be available on race days. Entry lists and results will be posted as they are available.
The weather in Topeka, Kan., is forecasted to be more pleasant than previous years. While overcast skies and a chance of rain is excepted to open the week, sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures are expected to prevail from Wednesday onward.
