Officials at Miller Motorsports Park have established the 2012 racing schedule for the track's new amateur off-road short-course racing series, the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series – Utah. The inaugural season will consist of a five-race series held on the new off-road short course at Miller Motorsports Park that opened to the public last June.
“We are very excited about the prospects for the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series – Utah,” said John Larson, General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park. “Our racers and fans have proven to us that we need to be involved in off-road racing, and our friends at the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series have been fantastic partners as we have worked together to create this new grass-roots off-road racing series. This new series is going to be great for amateur off-road racers and their fans, and it is also going to grow talent that will eventually find its way into the professional Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.”
As part of the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Racing Series, the Utah Region joins the Southern California and Arizona Regions and the Arizona Short Course Championship in promoting and developing grass-roots off-road short course racing. Utah Region officials will be working with their Southern California and Arizona counterparts to develop uniform rules and safety standards for exciting new classes as each region develops. While the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series rulebook will be utilized for existing short course off-road racing classes, additional new classes will be added to create opportunities for off-road racers at all levels to compete safely in short course off-road racing.
In addition to the Utah Region's season, the Arizona Region will host a seven-race series on three different tracks across Arizona while the Southern California Region will see the addition of the new and improved Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park to Glen Helen Raceway on its six-race schedule. All series will finish out the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the inaugural Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Shootout, bringing together racers from all over the west to battle it out for championships and bragging rights.
“We are excited by the growth that all of our Lucas Oil Regional Series have seen,” said Southern California Series Director Lee Perfect. “We have seen that with sponsor, racer and spectator support it is definitely possible to put on affordable, fun grass-roots events that provide a place for racers to do some good racing, get some practice for the professional series and come out and just have a good time with a limited budget and time commitment. We are excited to offer an end-of-the-year shootout, and are certain that it is going to be a great addition to the schedule for everyone. The overall focus of all of the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series has been to keep everything affordable, fun and family friendly, and we look forward to working together to continue to do that in 2012.”
The dates for the 2012 Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series – Utah season are as follows: May 5, June 16, July 7, Aug. 18 and Oct. 6, with the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Shootout scheduled for Nov. 10.
