Following initial tests at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Indianapolis Motor Speedway's road course, the new 2012 IndyCar took to an oval for the first time Tuesday at Iowa Speedway.
The test was closed to the public but a handful of intrepid fans and bloggers took to the track to gather impressions on the new Dallara car's first oval laps.
IndyCar blogger and Iowa native Bill Zahren, better known as Pressdog (@pressdog on Twitter), briefly talked to Dan Wheldon and said Wheldon got the car flat around the 0.875-mile oval within 15 laps.
Once the car was on track, all individuals not directly involved with the project left the facilities.
Future oval tests are scheduled to take place at Texas Motor Speedway and Indianapolis at later dates.
