TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec. 22, 2008) – The 2009 SCCA Club Racing National season is set to begin only a few short days after the Christmas presents have been unwrapped and New Year’s resolutions have been set. With the clock ticking away on 2008, drivers should begin to think about registering for 2009 contingency programs.
Though one Club National event has already been tallied for the 2009 season by the Arizona Region at Phoenix International Raceway, the first race of the new year will be held at Palm Beach International Raceway, where the Florida Region eagerly begins the year with a double National.
With the exception of one Region in the Northern Pacific Division and two Regions in the Northeast Division, all Club National events have been posted at www.scca.com. Just click the events tab.
Several contingency programs have already been confirmed for 2009 with the remainder to be confirmed after the holidays.
Tire makers Goodyear, Hoosier and Toyo have returned for another season of Club Racing. Goodyear is offering two free tires for winners in select classes, as is Hoosier, who will also award runner-up finishers with one free tire. Toyo Tires has increased their payouts for the Spec Miata class. In 2009, Toyo will pay cash awards to first through eighth place finishers, ranging from $400 for win to $75 for eighth. Additionally, Toyo will award $1,500 to each eligible Spec Miata Division Champion.
Summit Racing Equipment will also offer cash payouts to eligible drivers. Summit offers $125 for first-place finishers, $75 for second place and $50 for third.
Toyota/TRD is the first of the auto manufacturers to confirm its program. The company is prepared to offer $800 to GT-2 and GT-3 winners, while GT-Lite, G Production, Showroom Stock B and C, Formula Atlantic and C Sports Racing winners will be awarded $400.
Contingency registration forms and program information are now posted here. Drivers should read the program requirements carefully and be sure to have the necessary paperwork turned in before their first event.
