TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 12, 2006) - Over $1 million in cash, tires, suits and other racing products will be up for grabs at the 2006 SCCA National Championship Runoffs®. No less than 38 contingency programs will be activated this year, five more than 2005, with the possibility of additional programs as the event approaches
Presently, the largest contingency program belongs to that of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Any 2006 National Champion who crosses the finish line on four Goodyear Tires will receive $3,000. Second and third place finishers on Goodyears will receive $2,000 and $1,000, respectively. In total, Goodyear is posting a whopping $144,000 for this year’s Runoffs.
Hoosier-shod competitors need not fret, Hoosier Racing Tire will provide four free tires to 2006 National Champions running their rubber, as well as a free set for every 2007 SCCA Club Racing National event they run.
Kumho, Toyo, Yokohama and Hankook tires will have contingency programs on tap as well. Kumho offers $5,000 to champions in 6 classes, while Hankook and Toyo will pay out $4,000 to champions in eligible classes.
Car and oil manufacturers are also putting up big bucks for this year’s Runoffs.
All Honda and Acura racers who start a Championship race will be awarded $500, courtesy of American Honda. Podium finishers will receive additional bonuses of $1,500 to $500, which creates the possibility of more than a $98,000 payout for the manufacturer.
Another car manufacturer posting $98,000 is Mazda North American Operations, which plans to award $4,000 to Championship winners, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third place Mazda finishers in over a dozen classes.
Posting $5,000 for champions in select classes include Subaru, Toyota, Dodge and General Motors.
Runoffs podium finishers using Red Line Synthetic Oil will find themselves walking away with Simpson Red Line Oil driving suits and an additional $700 for National Champions, while Valvoline competitors can expect $1,000 to $250 for a top three finish.
This is only a sampling of the numerous contingency programs available to 2006 Runoffs participants. In addition to product use, many programs require the display of product decals or patches, so be sure to read registration forms carefully.
